NEW YORK TERROR ATTACKS USED TO PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL COURT
International Criminal Court Told To Ready For Operations By Summer 2002
NEW YORK, September 26, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The Preparatory Committee for the International Criminal Court (ICC) was addressed yesterday by Jozias van Aartsen, Foreign Minister of the Netherlands. Aartsen told the committee that preparations in the Netherlands, where the ICC is to be located, are progressing rapidly to ensure that the Court could begin operations from its very first day, which he said could be as early as the summer of 2002.
Aartsen unabashedly used the tragedy of the terrorist attacks to promote the ICC, going so far as to use language reminiscent of the "new world order" by calling for an "international legal order". Referring to the attacks he said, "We emerge, more convinced than ever of the need to strengthen the international legal order and the fight against universal crimes. Where better to begin our renewed effort than in that same city of New York?" A UN report on the meeting reveals that he said, "More than ever, the importance of the ICC was clear to all. Universal crimes demanded a universal answer."
Aartsen noted that the 30,000 square metres building which would house the ICC was expected to be finished by 2007. However, he said, interim premises would be available from the first day of the Court's existence.

PRO-LIFERS ASSAULTED DURING SHOW THE TRUTH DEMONSTRATION
SUDBURY, ON, September 26, 2001 (LSN.ca) - A pro-life demonstration outside a Sudbury high school on Monday morning was halted by an irate man who, according to one of the demonstrators, pushed several female protesters, grabbed their signs, ripped them up and then stomped on them. Pro-life demonstrator Chris Selmys told the Sudbury Star that the man kept repeating the line "it's disgusting, it's disgusting".
Greater Sudbury Police Sgt. Loretta Ronchin told LifeSite that the local-area man was being confrontational and was taken by police into custody "until he calmed down." Ronchin said the man was informed what would happen if he continued his actions and was released without criminal charges. Ronchin said the large pictures used in the demonstrations "are not well received" in the area.
The demonstration is part of the Show The Truth - High School Mission, which began Monday and ends Friday at high schools in Sudbury, Sturgeon Falls and North Bay.

4,000 MEN COMMIT TO PRO-LIFE, PRO-FAMILY, AND CHRISTIAN IDEALS AT PROMISE KEEPERS RALLY
HAMILTON, September 26, 2001 (LSN.ca) - Some 4000 men attended the Promise Keepers rally in Copps Coliseum in Hamilton over the weekend. The men's meeting which attracts huge crowds, has gained success without sacrificing its beliefs on life and family issues.
On its website, http://www.promisekeepers.ca the organization says, "One of these truths is to respect the sanctity of life and defend the defenseless. Those in the womb are some of the most defenseless of all human beings." On homosexuality, the group states, "Promise Keepers shares the same historic stance taken by Evangelicals and Catholics: that sex is a good gift from God to be enjoyed in the context of heterosexual marriage. We believe that the Bible clearly teaches that homosexuality violates God's creative design for a husband and a wife and that it is a sin."

TORONTO MORNING-AFTER-PILL PILOT STUDY BEGINS
Pills now available over the counter at pharmacies in selected areas
TORONTO, September 26, 2001 (LSN.ca) - A pilot study allowing distribution of the abortifacient morning-after-pill direct from pharmacists is underway in 33 pharmacies in the Toronto areas of Rexdale, Scarborough and parts of North York. The Financial Post reported Monday that more than 1000 doses of the abortifacients have been doled out since the June launch of the study.
The Post notes that pharmacists receive training to screen women for the drugs. Women accessing the drugs remain anonymous and are asked to fill out forms which are then sent to a collaborating physician who supplies authorization. "The whole procedure takes less than 20 minutes," says Anna Pancham, a researcher with Planned Parenthood of Toronto and co-ordinator for the pilot. Pancham said the selection of the 33 pharmacies and the other 12 still to join the project after training, is based on areas believed to have high rates of sexually transmitted diseases and abortions.
The Post reports that the pilot, which runs till 2003, is funded by the Ontario Women's Health Council, established by the ministry of health three years ago.

SHAW CABLE MUST APPEAL TO CRTC TO REFUSE EASY ACCESS TO X-RATED HOMOSEXUAL CHANNEL
Homosexual Channel Calls for Boycott of Shaw
OTTAWA, September 26, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The Canadian government's broadcast regulator has insisted that cable and satellite companies include a homosexual channel in their regular digital lineup. Shaw Cable, which owns Star Choice, one of Canada's two satellite companies, presented arguments to the CRTC yesterday defending its position requiring customers to opt in without extra cost to the homosexual channel.
The National Post reports that Shaw argued that since PrideVision airs erotica, it would be irresponsible to provide the service to households without their permission. Denis Carmel, a spokesman for the CRTC in Ottawa, told the Post he is expecting a rebuttal from PrideVision as early as this week, after which the matter will be placed before the commission for a decision.
A LifeSite reader who subscribes to the Canadian satellite service Bell Expressvu, called LifeSite last week to report that, while looking through the new channels in the early afternoon on a weekday, she was alarmed to find PrideVision showing full frontal nudity. The program was depicting an interview with two men ostensibly from a nudist camp. The mother of teenage children was relieved that she, and not her children, came across the offensive material. When she called Expressvu to complain she was told she could block reception of the channel by programming her receiver.
PrideVision has launched a boycott against Shaw's Star Choice.

ESTONIA ALLOWS ABORTION FOR MINORS WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT
TALLINN, September 26, 2001 (LSN.ca) - On Tuesday, the Estonian government proposed pro-abortion measures that would abolish the need for parental consent for abortions on minors. The government press office released a statement noting that the amendments to the abortion law were proposed on the assumption that when a girl is capable of becoming pregnant she should be able to make her own decisions.
