LIBERALS TO IMPOSE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT IN BILL C-19

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

- Federal Government Will Surrender National Sovereignty -

OTTAWA, Dec 13, (LSN.ca) - On Friday the Liberal government introduced what may well be seen as its most dangerous piece of legislation to date, Bill C-19, which will "implement in Canada the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC)." Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Anne McLellan are calling the bill the Crimes Against Humanity Act. "I am proud that Canada is the first country to introduce such comprehensive implementation legislation," said Minister Axworthy about legislation that takes significant steps to surrendering national sovereignty to an international judicial body.

The UN conference in Rome which produced the ICC statute was filled with controversy. Also, international experts from a wide spectrum of concern in Canada and the United States condemned the proposal as a threat to national sovereignty and the distinct cultural and religious values protected in individual countries.

Some zealots at the ICC conference attempted to add issues such as abortion, as new war crimes, to the agenda of the court, leading some experts to warn that they will continue to push for changes to the ICC's mandate once it has been safely ratified by leading nations. In particular, pro-lifers familiar with the international scene, are concerned about the influence of feminists and the homosexual lobby at the international level and their potential to implement their agenda at the highest level of judicial appeal that currently exists.

One certainty borne out in the Liberal Ministers' comments about the bill is the surrender of national sovereignty that comes with the statute. With this legislation Canada will be forced to "surrender persons sought by the ICC for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and other offences under the Statute. In addition, a person who is the subject of a request for surrender by the ICC would not be able to claim immunity from arrest or surrender."

Moreover, the absolute supremacy of the ICC over Canadian law is revealed in the explanatory material on the bill released by the government Ministers: "It would not be a defence that an offence was committed in obedience to the law in force at the time and in the place of its commission."

The Ministers are urging other countries to make it a priority to ratify the ICC Statute and they have pledged $110,000 of taxpayer money in support of two international lobbying efforts in that regard.

VATICAN CONDEMNS PROPOSED FORCED ABORTION FOR 13-YEAR OLD IN ITALY

SICILY, Dec 13 (LSN.ca) - The case of a mentally handicapped 13-year-old pregnant girl taken from her parents and put in the custody of a doctor who says she should have an abortion against her will prompted a strong condemnation by the Vatican paper, Osservatore Romano. "The horrors of Nazi racism are back after 50 years. In this tragic affair, human reasoning has reached the heights of folly and iniquity," said the paper.

The London Telegraph reports today that young mother, Laura, has not yet been forced to undergo the abortion procedure. The doctor is claiming that giving birth would negatively affect the girl's fragile mental health. Critics note that a forced abortion would be far more detrimental.

TURLOCK, California, Dec 13 (LSN.ca) - Practicing homosexuals Barrie Drewitt, and Tony Barlow of England, made legal history in being declared the legal parents of twins born Sunday in California. A US Supreme Court judge decided to allow the two men to be placed on the birth certificates of the children as parents without mention of a mother. The baby boy and girl were the products of a paid surrogacy arrangement using the sperm of both men.

The British pair paid American company Growing Generations nearly half a million (Canadian) dollars to produce the twins. The company, located in Turlock California advertises on the Internet as the "first and only gay and lesbian owned surrogacy firm exclusively serving the gay community worldwide." The agency is run by lesbian Gail Taylor, and Will Halm, a homosexual lawyer.

FEDERAL LEVY ON AUDIO RECORDING MATERIAL BEGINS JAN. 2000

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

OTTAWA, Dec 13 (LSN.ca) - Last year the federal government passed Bill C-32 which authorized a levy on all audio recording material to compensate the music industry for lost revenue caused by illegal copying. The Bill became law Jan. 1, 1999 but was not implemented then because of public protest received during the fall of 1998.

Charitable, non-profit and church organizations, many businesses and others that heavily use blank audio cassettes and CDs for their own purposes, completely separate from the commercial music industry, strongly objected to the levies. The initial rates proposed would have greatly increased the cost of blank stock for reasons that did not apply to any of these groups.

As of this date, the Copyright Board is refusing to release the levy rates that will be implemented in January. This information is supposed to become available on Dec. 20. As well, blank stock distributors and importers do not yet have any information on how they are expected to collect and remit the levies. Industry registered songwriters have been asked to complete a form that will qualify them for receiving payments from the program.

The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada is considering a constitutional challenge against the levy.

GOV'T WOMEN'S CONFERENCE DISCRIMINATES AGAINST CONSERVATIVE WOMEN

SHARE: E-mail E-MAIL  Print PRINT

AYLMER, Que, Dec 13 (LSN.ca) - The Consultation on Gender Equality hosted by Canada's Status of Women department openly discriminated against a representative of a conservative women's group attending the meeting. The National Post reported Saturday that Cecilia Forsyth, a delegate from REALWomen of Canada was asked openly to leave a meeting, and was "booed" by the hoards of radical feminists present. Prior to her attendance some delegates had requested that her invitation to the gathering be withdrawn.

One delegate, demonstrating modern feminism's hatred of opposing views, even likened Mrs. Forsyth to a "white-supremacist." The Post quotes Delegate Shelagh Day of the National Association of Women and Law as saying REALWomen have no place at the conference since "they endorse a subordinate status for women." "It's like inviting a white-supremacist organization" to a meeting to address discrimination against minorities, she said. Of course, Mrs. Forsyth is instead a woman from a women's organization appropriately attempting to present her organization's view on women's issues.
